Classic material. What do those two words mean to you? For some, the
term might conjure up memories of hearing genre-defining back-in-the-
day releases from the likes of Run-DMC, BDP or Public Enemy for the
first time. For others, it might relate to feelings towards lesser-
known musical gems that provided the soundtrack to personal and
important moments along their respective Hip-Hop journeys.

But when
an artist or group describes their own work as being classic material?
That can either mean inflated delusions of grandeur, or supreme
confidence in a piece of art that truly stands head-and-shoulders above
the competition. In the case of the product you're currently holding in
your hands from transatlantic trio Ill Treats, Audessey and Oxygen,
it's definitely the latter that applies.

Rooted in the talented
threesome's passion for golden-age Hip-Hop, without simply sounding
like the work of a crew trying to recreate a by-gone era, "Classic
Material" is a skillfully-crafted project which brilliantly balances
beats, rhymes and life.

The expert wordplay of Soundsci members Ox and
Audessey blends perfectly here with the full-bodied, sample-based boom-
bap of UK producer Ill Treats, resulting in a rewarding sonic
experience rich in true-school creativity.

More than capable of living
up to its title, "Classic Material" is an album that will no doubt
still sound as impressive in years to come as it does today.
